An Interview with Tom Butt

This an short excerpt–about a quarter of the interview–that I had with the artist Tom Butt. We talked more about his creations–the black rubber series is of note–music, and other outsider artists. Tom is endlessly creative as he is generous, as he is vulnerable as he is insightful.

Tom Butt is an eighty-year-old outsider artist from Oshkosh. He does 2D pop and creates critters from recyclable junk–namely the DEAD Clicker Duck Series and his ReToys, such as his “Poli Dolly” line. Tom feels that as long as there were outsiders there was outsider art, and is happy that it is becoming a legit genre.
