Body

by Gilliana Hope

The saying goes “we accept the love we think we deserve”
I wonder if that means I don’t think I am worthy of love
Or maybe I am, but can’t find the synergy
Between never enough and much too much to be perceived.

I cannot find someone who likes me like that That I like back, so I settle for crumbs
content enough breaths, electrified while numb

A body to be held, temporary hands caress my cells If a body’s all I get, I’ll lay comfortably with that

For we accept the love we think we deserve, or so they say, so I lower expectations
to compensate for my perception.
