"Breathing Room" Poetry series
We had a great time at the first "Breathing Room" Poetry Series event at the fsm. Konsthus!
Walden Hoddie, Grace Rebekah Wiersma, and Joseph Radke read at our inaugural event, with Chloé Allyn of Only Child—co-organizer of the series—MC'ing and joining Joseph on a poem acting as a literal second voice.
Our large living room (affectionally deemed as Lynchian) was filled with community members for the one hour reading. As Walden and Grace are both Lawrence University students, many of the audience came from the school. This was a good representation of the writers we publish in the paper—half coming from the university and the other from the community at large.
"Breathing Room" will be a monthly event, with our next reading planned for April 16th from 6–7 pm. The readings are free, with donations always appreciated to help us pay the poets and continue to fund our non-profit mission of connecting the greater community to the artistic voices within.
The latest issue of fsm., which started being delivered around the NE Wisconsin on March 12th, contains a poem each from Walden, Grace, and Joseph. The Konsthus (art house in Swedish) is our first physical location. The latest issue of the paper will always list what we have planned to host, which will include workshops, readings, and community get-togethers. The Konsthus also houses a number of artists and writers who use it as their studio space.
In art and action,
Cristian
